Fine Arts, Crafts, and Graphic Design   

This is an easy, hand-building ceramics course in two parts, catering to students with little or no previous ceramics experience. In this course, you will create a beautiful wall sculpture in clay, guided by an art educator, Thomasin Dewhurst. Participants will be instructed step-by-step in a series of two lessons that cover preparing, working with, and modeling in clay, creating an original sculptural design, working with under-glazing and glazing techniques, and learning about kiln-firing. To give time for the pieces to be kiln-fired before glazing, the course is divided into two lessons that are two weeks apart. There will be a short meet-up after the final kiln-firing so that students can collect their finished pieces. This course is a fun, relaxed way to learn about working with clay, resulting in a beautiful art work you will be proud to display.

Have you ever wondered how beautiful candles are made? Have you ever wanted to make fragrant, multicolored candles for yourself or friends? In this dynamic online workshop, students will learn virtually how to create unique candles to admire and share for far less than what they cost in stores. During this class, you will complete several candles and learn skills that will allow you to continue making your own candles.

• Candle molds
• Adding fragrance and color
• Materials and supply sources

This class is arranged to run in Zoom platform. Each participant will receive zoom link and ingredient list in their email a week before the class. A digital book is included in the registration fee.

Your bath can become your at-home getaway when you add beautiful and fragrant handmade glycerin soaps. Making these beautiful soaps is easy, enjoyable, and a way to express your creativity. In this live online course, you will create different types of soaps while learning how to use colors, molds, fragrances, essential oil, extract, herbs, and, also, novelties. There will be a virtual discussion on how to make organic, natural or therapeutic soap. Each participant will receive zoom link and ingredient list a week before the start of class. A digital book is included in the price of the course. Age range: 18+

Have you thought about drawing the portrait but do not know where to start? This course is for adult beginners, or those who would like to refresh their basic portrait drawing skills. With the guidance of local artist Thomasin Dewhurst, you will use pencil, charcoal, and other various mediums, and learn drawing and shading techniques, materials to use, composition, proportions, and creating likeness. Your instructor will include demonstrations as you learn. Students completing this course will have the skills to create convincing portraits on their own.

 

The materials fee of $10 includes all of the tools and supplies that you will need during the course. This is due to the instructor the first day of class. Cash only.

The “Procreate Beyond Basics” is designed for artists who are ready to take their digital illustration skills to the next level. This course dives deep into Procreate's advanced tools and techniques, teaching students how to create complex compositions, customize brushes, and utilize professional-level workflows. Participants will explore in-depth methods for digital painting, including blending modes, masking tools, and layer effects, to produce polished and detailed artwork. By the end of the course, students will have the skills to elevate their digital art projects and build a standout portfolio. Ideal for artists looking to push their creative boundaries and achieve mastery in Procreate.

 

The prerequisite for the Procreate Advanced Class is a "Procreate for Beginners" or "Procreate Fundamentals" course. Students should already be familiar with the basic tools and features of Procreate, such as, navigating the interface; gesture controls; basic drawing and painting techniques; using selections and transform tools; importing and exporting files in Procreate. This foundational knowledge will ensure that students are prepared to dive into the more advanced techniques covered in the class.

Age range: 12+: Procreate is suitable for users of all ages. It can be beneficial to a wide range of individuals, but it is particularly valuable for artists and designers, students and beginners, creative professionals, tech-savvy individuals, hobbyists and enthusiasts.

The Procreate Beyond Basics for Interior Designers focuses on equipping them with advanced digital techniques to elevate their design presentations. In this course, students learn to create detailed floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings using Procreate's specialized tools. Key skills include mastering floor plan renderings with speed and accuracy, doing perspective and isometric drawings, and add a variety of materials and finishes. Students will explore custom brushes ideal for showing intricate details like fabrics, wood floor or stone materials, and other décor elements. This course also covers effective use of Procreate’s perspective and isometric default grid tools to streamline precise room visualization. Each lesson includes hands-on projects and professional tips for producing high-quality interior design artwork. Collaborative feedback sessions encourage students to refine their work with client and industry standards. By the end of the course, designers will have the confidence to use Procreate as a powerful tool in their interior design toolkit.

Have you thought about watercolor painting but do not know where to start? This course if for beginners, or those who would like to refresh their basic watercolor skills. With the guidance of local artist Thomasin Dewhurst, you will practice the art of watercolor painting, the techniques, materials to use, composition, plus aspects of both realism and more expressive painting. Your instructor will include demonstration as you learn. Students completing this course will have the skills to better paint on their own, or even participate in more advanced workshops and art events, such as Paint Livermore.
