This is an easy, hand-building ceramics course in two parts, catering to students with little or no previous ceramics experience. In this course, you will create a beautiful wall sculpture in clay, guided by an art educator, Thomasin Dewhurst. Participants will be instructed step-by-step in a series of two lessons that cover preparing, working with, and modeling in clay, creating an original sculptural design, working with under-glazing and glazing techniques, and learning about kiln-firing. To give time for the pieces to be kiln-fired before glazing, the course is divided into two lessons that are two weeks apart. There will be a short meet-up after the final kiln-firing so that students can collect their finished pieces. This course is a fun, relaxed way to learn about working with clay, resulting in a beautiful art work you will be proud to display. 

Materials: Clay, glazes, and firing cost included in course fee

Age range: 16+

Students completing this course will have the skills to better paint on their own, or even participate in more advanced workshops and art events, such as Paint Livermore.

In this dynamic online workshop, students will learn virtually how to create unique candles to admire and share for far less than what they cost in stores. During this class, you will complete several candles and learn skills that will allow you to continue making your own candles.

In this course, we will cover:

• Candle molds
• Adding fragrance and color
• Materials and supply sources

This class is arranged to run in Zoom platform. Each participant will receive zoom link and ingredient list in their email a week before the class. A digital book is included in the registration fee. 

Age range: 16+

Your bath can become your at-home getaway when you add beautiful and fragrant handmade glycerin soaps. Making these beautiful soaps is easy, enjoyable, and a way to express your creativity. In this live online course, you will create different types of soaps while learning how to use colors, molds, fragrances, essential oil, extract, herbs, and, also, novelties. There will be a virtual discussion on how to make organic, natural or therapeutic soap. Each participant will receive zoom link and ingredient list a week before the start of class. A digital book is included in the price of the course. Age range: 18+

In this series, students will bring in their own supplies, reference materials, and project ideas. Students will be instructed and guided by art educator, Thomasin Dewhurst. Participants can sign up for one month at a time, up to 3 months. This series is an easy-going and instructive way to overcome creative problems and to challenge yourself to new heights. Mediums are limited to drawing, watercolor, acrylic painting, and oil painting. 

Materials: students bring in their own materials.

Learn to paint the portraits! This workshop is for beginning to intermediate students with some beginning drawing experience. All supplies and reference materials will be provided. Students will paint a head-and-shoulders portrait and will be instructed on painting technique, what materials to use, drawing facial proportions, color mixing and how to relate the background to the portrait.

The “Procreate Beyond Basics” is designed for artists who are ready to take their digital illustration skills to the next level. This course dives deep into Procreate's advanced tools and techniques, teaching students how to create complex compositions, customize brushes, and utilize professional-level workflows. Participants will explore in-depth methods for digital painting, including blending modes, masking tools, and layer effects, to produce polished and detailed artwork. By the end of the course, students will have the skills to elevate their digital art projects and build a standout portfolio. Prerequisite: "Procreate Fundamentals: Learn Digital Drawing from Scratch." Students should already be familiar with the basic tools and features of Procreate, such as, navigating the interface; gesture controls; basic drawing and painting techniques; using selections and transform tools; importing and exporting files in Procreate. This foundational knowledge will ensure that students are prepared to dive into the more advanced techniques covered in the class.

Course modality: This is a hybrid course, meaning you can join in-person or live remote. 

This class is a step-by-step introductory course designed for those with little to no experience in 3D modeling. Those interested in interior design and architecture, even hobbyists and DIY enthusiast, will find the course helpful; you will explore the world of 3D modeling and master the basics of SketchUp, a user-friendly and powerful 3D modeling software. Over the duration of the course, students will learn how to navigate the SketchUp interface, create and manipulate 3D models, apply textures and materials, and generate wonderful perspective views for presentation purposes. 

By the end of this course, students will have acquired essential skills in 3D modeling:  

• Proficiency in using SketchUp tools and commands. 
• The ability to create basic 3D objects and interior related elements and some architectural components. 
• Techniques for applying materials and textures to models. 
• Methods for creating detailed and accurate 2D and 3D drawings. 
• The capability to produce high-quality 3D models for presentations and client proposals.

This course equips students with the foundational knowledge needed to confidently use SketchUp for personal projects, academic assignments, or professional tasks in interior design and architecture. 

This is a HYBRID course. You can join the class in person or LIVE REMOTE. 

Materials:

1. Desktop PC or laptop with internet connection (computers will be provided for in-person students , or students can bring their own laptop)
2. SketchUp Free web-based software (cost: free) : limited access to other features. Students should create an account through sketchup.com either before class or on the first day of session. 
3. SketchUp Studio for Students* : 1-year license download for only $55. This includes a Pro account meaning unlimited access to almost everything including 3d rendering. Students need to produce proof school registration. (*This is totally optional and depends on student's own preference)
