Chi Running: Focus on Form and Run Smarter not Harder. This workshop is for runners of all abilities. Whether you’re a new or seasoned runner, your form can make all the difference in how you feel during and after your workout. Chi Running, based on the principles of Tai Chi is designed to maximize energy and minimize strain, helping you feel energized as you increase your distance and duration. But Chi Running isn’t just about enhancing endurance and speed, it’s also about minimizing impact and reducing the risk of injury. Run smarter, not harder. Learn the essentials of Chi Running —a technique that combines Tai Chi principles with the sport of running. At the workshop, you’ll learn to run in a way that feels natural, protects your joints and builds endurance over time. You will be guided through exercises and drills designed to leave you with a clear sense of what the Chi Running technique feels like in your body. You will learn and practice how to: develop, maintain, and body sense good posture and alignment and how to avoid over-using your legs by engaging the power of your core and moving forward from your center. The Chi Walking technique emphasizes walking form—the proper and effective biomechanics of walking and draws from the movement principles of Tai Chi to make walking easier on the body by promoting energy efficiency and injury prevention. How you walk dictates how stress moves through your body while walking. Discover how efficient walking techniques distribute less stress on your body. Through innovative walking drills and exercises you will learn and practice how to: develop and maintain good posture and use the power of your core to create smooth whole-body walking which reduces the stress and strain on your hips, back, legs, knees and feet. Looking to improve your golf game? Learn with the guidance of an expert and with the support of other community members looking to improve. This course will analyze your grip, set-up, alignment and the full swing, and the instructor will provide video analysis and feedback on what to improve. You will learn various short game techniques including pitching, chipping, putting, and sand play. The last focuses on the theme of course management and involves playing 9 holes of golf. This course is for beginner to intermediate skill-level players.
About your Instructor: Paul Sapsford is the instructor for this class. He has taught the Las Positas College Golf class for over 10 years, played collegiate golf in the UK, and was certified by the USGT as an Associate Teaching Professional in 2017.
Please note the following:
- Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome to join.
- This course is held at the Las Positas Golf Course. The exact meeting place will be communicated in an email prior to the beginning of class.

Join us in Del Valle State Park as we learn to recognize local birds by sight or sound. Learn about migration cycles, species distribution, and habitats. Alameda County's Del Valle State Park provides an ideal opportunity to observe the fall migration and post-breeding journeys of birds. During our field excursion, we will be on the lookout for Grebes, Terns, Woodpeckers, Magpies, Orioles, Tanagers, Wrens, and Warblers, and we will focus on identifying these families along with year-round Oak Woodland residents, such as Yellow-billed Magpie, We will also be on the lookout for Woodpeckers, Kingfishers, and raptors! Your guide will offer information on species, so note-taking is encouraged, and a list of the bird species seen will be provided. This field excursion is ideal for all levels of birding. Beginning birders: come and build your birding skills!
Age Range: These classes are designed for those 11+ (parents can accompany their children) and seniors.
Location: Del Valley State Park, Livermore CA. Specific meeting location information will be distributed to attendees prior to the start of class. There is a $10 entrance fee, which includes parking, for Del Valle. Participants are responsible for this fee.

Setchu-ryu Jujutsu is an eclectic system of martial arts comprised of several distinct systems blended together into one seamless style. The primary systems incorporated in the system are Danzan Ryu Jujitsu, Tenio DeCuerdas Eskrima, Lua Halau O Kaihewalu, though students will also learn concepts from Kosho Ryu Kenpo, Aikido, and Rillamas Serrada Escrima, and Wa Ko Ryu Jujutsu. Students will be taught how to apply and receive throws safely, apply and escape locks, manipulate joints, control an opponent’s balance, strike quickly and effectively, activate nerves, take advantage of vital points, and use and defend against weapons. Designed for those 40 and over, this weight training and conditioning course will help you build muscle mass and prevent muscle loss that can occur with aging and improve your balance and mobility. You will also learn how to help prevent overuse injuries that can occur from repeated movements.

Looking to improve your cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of heart disease or build bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis? Designed for those 40 and over, this weight training and conditioning course will help you build muscle mass and prevent muscle loss that can occur with aging and improve your balance and mobility. You will also learn how to help prevent overuse injuries that can occur from repeated movements.
What to wear: work-out attire and closed toe shoes are required.
Please note that this section of this course is a 2 days per week pass. You can attend both days each week.
Instructor Paul Sapsford will utilize experience from teaching weight training classes at LPC since 2008. He studied Kinesiology at St. Mary's University (BSc Hons), and Saint Mary's College of California (MA). Furthermore, he completed the British Amateur Weight Lifters Association's (B.A.W.L.A.) Weight Training Instructor Certificate while attending St. Mary's University, London.

Imagine that it is late at night and you, and/or your daughter, are alone and are walking to your car from the restaurant. The parking lot is empty, and out of the corner of your eye you see a large figure approaching you and they continue to approach...and quickly....What Would You Do? Would you know what to do? If you find yourself drawing a blank to both of these questions, or if you are unsure of what you may know will work, join our program; we will you basic and easy to learn movements that will aid you in protecting yourself during a physical attack.
In this course, you will learn:
- Victim vs. Non-Victim behavior
- Proper Striking Techniques with the Hands-Legs-Feet-Knees-Elbows
- Grab Escapes
- Effective Body Targets
- Drills to enhance familiarity and efficacy in use.

Location: This course is being held off-site at Kokua Martial Arts Academy in Pleasanton
This course is being offered by Kokua Martial Arts Academy, which is owned and operated by Esther Molina. Ms. Molina is a high-ranking instructor in the art of Kajukenbo and has made it her life's mission to help women and young girls be better prepared for situations like the one described above. Ms. Molina, with the help of her seasoned and well-trained instructors, have developed a Personal Protection Program, specifically designed for women and young girls, to help them to learn and to put in practice the tools that will help them in these types of situations.
