Interested in babysitting? Be prepared with CPR, First Aid, and Safety skills! This course is ideal for youth and teens wanting basic CPR and First Aid knowledge with a focus on childcare scenarios.This course can equip you with the knowledge to keep the kids in your care safe. A mix of instruction and practice, as well as the opportunity to walk through real life scenarios, will help you prepare for the unexpected. This is a recognized CPR and First Aid class. This course will cover CPR basics, including how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for child and infant and care for a choking child or infant. In addition, students will learn how to recognize and treat sudden illness, wound care, treatment of anaphylactic shock (use of epi-pens), and how to respond to mechanical and head injuries. In this class, students will also cover situational awareness as it pertains to safety and protection. Students will be given the opportunity to work through specific scenarios and by the end of the course, should have a good understanding of basic level of care.  Successful completion of this course will earn the student a nationally recognized Babysitter CPR and First Aid Certificate.

By the end of this class, you will learn how to...

• perform CPR on Child or Infant, with or without an AED

Welcome to the world of fencing! Join us by learning the basics in the first week. You will be advancing, retreating, and lunging with a sword in hand! How much more fun can it get!!!

There is a $20 equipment rental fee that is paid to the instructor on the first day. Cash only.

Have you ever wanted to create your own character and bring it to life? Designing a captivating character is vital for graphic novels, movies, video games, and many other industries. In this summer camp, we will draw and paint our own character in Photoshop, taking style, costuming, and props into consideration, as well as the character's expressions and gestures.

Age range: Middle School

Unlock your creativity in a four-day, multi-media art adventure. In this camp, learn pencil and charcoal drawing, acrylic and watercolor painting, ceramics and sculpture from recycled materials. With the guidance of local artist and art educator, Thomasin Dewhurst, students will improve their art-making skills and think in depth about the ideas, composition, color, techniques and subject matter that go into making their artistic creations. Beginners welcome. 

Materials: The materials fee of $15 includes all of the tools and supplies that you will need during the course. This is due to the instructor the first day of class. Cash only.

This is HYBRID course. You have the choice to meet in-person or LIVE REMOTE each class meeting. Please come prepared with your Apple iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate installed on your iPad.

This course is a blend of online instruction and in-person workshops.

This is an intensive training camp for 5-days over a 2-1/2 week period. This course prepares students for Summer Nationals. Even if you are not going to Summer Nationals, come join us for this intenstive training. All are welcome. 

Age range: 10+

Interested in learning how to decorate homes or become an interior designer? Learn the elements and principles of interior design with an emphasis on the use of color and texture in the selection of home furnishings using a computer aided design (CAD) program.

Age range: Middle and High School

Are you interested in taking the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), living or studying in Japan, or working in the animation and gaming industry? This class is for the academically inclined individual not afraid to take a deep dive into the complicated world of Japanese grammar, reading, and writing. We will cover both hiragana, katakana, and an introduction to Kanji. Let’s study Japanese!    

Instructor Belardino: The instructor is half Japanese, lived in Japan for almost twenty years, is credentialed, and is a certificated language teacher. She is also a member of the American Association of Teachers Japanese and the California Association of Japanese Language Teachers.    

Required Book: GENKI 1 Textbook and Workbook 3rd Edition 

The textbook introduces the Japanese language in a manner that is extremely easy to understand. If you have any sort of disability, please let the instructor know, and she will be more than happy to accommodate your needs.

Any sort of recording, either via Zoom or third party software, is strictly prohibited for this course. Thank you for your understanding. Her goal is to transform the “remote” environment into a safe, engaging, space where students can freely ask questions, and have an enjoyable learning experience. She does request that all students who sign up for her classes turn their cameras on to optimize the virtual learning experience.

In this workshop designed specifically for teens, instructor and professional voice coach, John Morris, the voice of Andy in the Toy Story movies, will share a comprehensive introduction to Voice-Over (VO) and Podcasting followed by hands-on experience using your speaking voice for commercials, films, videos, and more. In this introductory class, you will learn about a unique, outside the box way to break into this creative, fulfilling, and potentially lucrative industry.

Join us for a 4-day intensive of Improvisation, Music Theory, Rehearsals, Performance and more! High School musicians of all abilities will get the opportunity to work with LPC Music Faculty and Alumni and present their work in a public performance on the Mertes Main Stage. This year's theme is one of the greatest of all American composers - not only in jazz but across all genres: Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (1899-1974)!

Age Range: High School, including rising High Schoolers and incoming College Freshman

In this multi-week workshop, you’ll explore the full journey of mural painting—from bold brainstorming and imaginative design to large-scale painting and final installation. Discover the fundamentals of compelling visual design and build real-world skills as you paint alongside experienced instructors. Let your creativity stretch across the wall!

 Each week, we will focus on a different aspect of creating a mural from start to finish:

• pursuing mural painting opportunities for publicly and privately owned spaces
• creating a strong, effective design with stakeholders in mind
• integrating the principles of design with thematic needs
• creating and revising designs with your client
• preparing the wall
• keeping the mural site clean
• transferring your design to the wall
• painting the mural itself
• photographing the mural
• clear coating the mural to protect from damage/degrading
• organizing a ribbon cutting we will join in on to celebrate our completed mural.

Materials included!

Location: The in-person portions of this course are held off-site at Casa Jam in Fremont, and the mural will be painted at KIPP King Collegiate in San Leandro.

About your instructors: Jared and Justin have 14 years of combined education and mural painting experience. They are local artists and co-owners of Cassa Jam, an art studio and store that focuses on building an art community in the Bay Area.

Looking for a fun, interactive activity for your child this summer? Sign them up for Pickleball Camp, where kids 10 and up will strengthen their hand-eye coordination, balance, and motor skills all while learning to work with a team and improving their communication, patience, and collaboration. Beginners are welcome. This course provides instruction on the fundamentals of Pickleball, incorporating scoring, rules, technique, and strategy.

Age range: 10-18

Python for Kids is specifically designed to make kids understand the basics of python programming, data analysis, understanding conditions, loops and applying these concepts to build GUI based interactive project using Tkinter. It is an exercise-based program where kids write their own code in real-time programming environment.

Kids will learn setting up online coding environment, variables, conditions, functions, string, looping, Tkinter widgets like frame, button, level and canvas and Game. They will work on several mini-projects and one final project using all the concept they did learn through the session. 

Age range: 10-16

In this engaging and educational course, students explore the world of Roblox game creation using Roblox Studio and Lua programming. Kids learn to design immersive 3D environments, animate characters, and code game mechanics while developing creativity, logic, and collaboration skills. Perfect for young creators ready to move from playing games to building their own! Age range: 11-15

Learn practical self defense to protect yourself! Our beginner-friendly teen course is designed to help you learn techniques to avoid, de-escalate, and remove yourself from unsafe and uncomfortable situations. Learn how to react and protect yourself when de-escalation and avoidance are not possible. We will use real world scenarios based on current events, including your input and concerns. You will also practice applying these skills through live drilling. Also, fitness plays an important role in proper self defense; each class will offer an optional 20-minute fitness segment to focus on physical skills (cardiovascular or conditioning). All experience and fitness levels are welcome!

By the end of this class, you will learn how to... 

• Recognize options in uncomfortable or unsafe situations
• Learn personal boundaries and how to enforce them
• Practice self defense techniques
• strengthen cardiovascular health

Location: This course is being held at Wu Xing Do Martial Arts & Fitness in Pleasanton.  

Anxiety and stress has become all too common amongst our teens. They face social and academic pressures, constant comparison and even cyberbullying on social media, difficult life circumstances, and so on. These symptoms of anxiety and stress can grow and intensify so much so that they interfere with daily life. Participants in this workshop come away equipped with the knowledge and skills that can help them conquer their anxiety and stress in an ever-changing, face-paced world. 

In this workshop, we will cover:

• Recognizing Anxiety (when do you feel anxiety)
• Recognizing behavioral patterns (anger, fear, depression, addictions) 
• Knowing boundaries (how to recognize others' boundaries, and set your                                                                own)

Experience with workshops such as these have shown that it builds self-esteem, confidence, and the skills to recognize and resolve anxiety and stress.They will be able to notice a new perspective on themselves and their possibilities.

In addition, students will learn how to recognize and treat sudden illness, wound care, treatment of anaphylactic shock (use of epi-pens), and how to respond to mechanical and head injuries. Students will be given the opportunity to work through specific scenarios and by the end of the course, should have a good understanding of basic level of care.  While similar to a standard CPR and First Aid course, this class focuses on situations and scenarios for sports and physical activities. Successful completion of this course will earn the student a nationally recognized BLS CPR Certificate and a First Aid Certificate. Whether you have no experience or just need a refresher, this class will work for you! This course is ideal for coaches, instructors, and anyone who participates in sports leagues or trains in martial arts.
