Certified Phlebotomy Technician Course (CPT 1)

Phlebotomy Technicians are in demand as one of the fastest growing occupations in healthcare. Launch your career as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1, collecting blood samples from patients in hospitals, clinical laboratories, medical offices, or clinical settings. This course provides a complete learning experience—with 48 hours of classroom instruction and a 40-hour hands-on externship, and prepares you to take the National Certification Exam and Licensure through the Department of Health Services-Laboratory Field Services to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1(CPTI). A certificate of completion is awarded upon successful completion of the course. According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job market for licensed phlebotomists is projected to increase by 8% between 2023 and 2033. In San Francisco, the median base pay for a phlebotomist is $71,658* annually.
Program Prerequisites:

Applicants must be 18 years or older and must possess a High School Transcript or have a General Education Diploma (GED) Transcript or show documentation of an equivalent education as described by the State of California. Any of these documents must be available at the time of enrollment. Applicants must be fluent in English since lectures and testing are conducted in English.

CPT1 Program Roadmap:

  • Complete 48 hours of classroom instruction

  • Complete 40-hour hands-on externship

  • Opportunity to take NHA exam

  • $100 from the materials fee covers the California State CPT 1 License Fee (made payable to LFS/DHS)

  • $129 from the materials fee covers the National Certification Exam Fee ( made payable to the NHA at the time of the exam)

  • BLS (basic life support) certificate from the American Heart Association
